PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS (Requirements for students’ advancing during the study)

The right to enroll in the post-graduate doctoral study in ethnology and cultural anthropology is granted to persons who have completed a university graduate study in the field of ethnology and anthropology with a minimum grade of 4.0. In addition, it is necessary to have recommendations from two university teachers, a letter of acceptance from a potential mentor, a CV and a doctoral research proposal. People who have completed graduate studies in other scientific areas and fields in the Republic of Croatia or abroad can also enroll in the course. This category of applicants can be assigned distinctive exams during the tender process, as well as the deadline for taking them.

It is possible to transfer to this doctoral program for applicants who have previously taken, but not completed, another university doctoral program. The decision on the evaluation and recognition of ECTS points earned at the previous study, as well as on enrollment in the corresponding semester of the regular postgraduate doctoral study in ethnology and cultural anthropology, is made by the Doctoral Study Council.

Foreign citizens can enroll into the study program under equal conditions as citizens of the Republic of Croatia.

Detailed enrollment procedure

Candidates are selected based on the application to the public competition for admission to the doctoral study, which is announced by the faculty. Admission criteria include: success in graduate university studies, demonstrated interest in scientific research (expressed during interviews with applicants that are part of the tender process, as well as in the CV, which should include: a list of participation in research projects during or after graduate studies, works published in scientific publications , additional knowledge, language competences, etc.), doctoral research proposal, recommendations of at least two university professors, letter of acceptance of potential mentorship from the teacher listed on the list of potential mentors of the Postgraduate Doctoral Study of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology.

Potential mentors and their contacts, as well as areas in which they can mentor doctoral students, are listed on the website of the Postgraduate Doctoral Study of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology. As part of the tender documentation, the candidate submits the mentor's consent to accept mentoring. An agreement with a potential mentor before applying for a competition for study admission is therefore a condition for a successful application. The "Consent form of a possible mentor" includes information about the doctoral research proposal, a review of the relevance of the proposed topic and a recommendation for the candidate.

Due to the better accessibility of the doctoral study, the good practice of appointing a second mentor is being introduced for doctoral students whose first mentors are heads of scientific projects who are not teachers of this doctoral study. In such a case, the doctoral student proposes another mentor from the list of teachers and potential mentors on the course and obtains a letter of consent from the second mentor.

The doctoral research proposal is a detailed description of the research that the applicant wishes to conduct as part of his doctoral studies. The doctoral research proposal is submitted as part of the competition documentation when applying for the competition for admission to Postgraduate Doctoral Studies. The proposal contains: a summary of the research topic, the goal and purpose of the doctoral research, an overview of the topic's research, the theoretical framework and methodological approach that will be applied in the doctoral research, personal motivation and qualifications for the research, work schedule, ethical issues, tentative cost list, list of bibliographic units. The proposal contains up to 10 cards of text (18,000 characters with spacing) and is submitted on the "Proposal_DR_EKA" form available on the pages of the Postgraduate Doctoral Study, on the link Enrollment in the doctoral study/Instructions for preparing a doctoral research proposal. The doctoral research proposal is an evaluation criterion by which the applicant demonstrates familiarity with contemporary research approaches and theories and the ability to communicate recent scientific interests and recognize relevant social and cultural topics from the fields of ethnology and anthropology.

The competition committee has the task of evaluating all received applications and interviewing all applicants. The committee proposes applicants who meet the evaluation criteria to the Doctoral Study Council. In selecting candidates, the Committee is guided by the criterion of excellence, which refers to success in previous studies, interest in scientific work, and the quality of research proposals.

The list of students who have acquired the right to enroll in the course is advertised publicly on the Faculty's website in accordance with the provisions of the General Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data (GDPR).
